Why Sell Your Jewelry to a Gemologist Jewelry Buyer?

corner-market-cash-for-gold-sign

These days it seems like just about everyone is buying gold. That’s right, the local corner market near our shop is now proudly displaying a “Cash for Gold” banner. With so many options, it can be difficult to know who to trust, and where you’re going to get the most for your jewelry. If only there was an internationally respected organization that trained and certified jewelers as experts in their field…

GIA-logoIt is with great pleasure that we announce that Angelo has just received his Graduate Gemologist (GG) degree from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). This prestigious achievement took over 5 years of study and hands on training and experience to achieve. The core information is the identification and valuation of gems, including diamonds, although the course work covered nearly all facets of jewelry and its constituent parts. Angelo read over three feet of text in addition to online material. One test was to identify 20 unknown gemstones perfectly with zero room for error. A 99% score on this test is failing.

It’s no wonder that there are so few professional gemologists in the jewelry field. Having someone with that degree of experience and training valuing your jewelry means that you can have confidence that you are getting the true value for all parts of the jewelry. Many in the jewelry buying field lack even the most elementary training and knowledge of gems. We have heard of numerous jewelry buyers who pay people only the gold value for their jewelry even if the gems set in the jewelry are worth thousands of dollars more than just the gold! Having a professional gemologist jewelry buyer evaluate your jewelry lets you rest assured that you are getting the most dollars for the whole piece of jewelry.

Come by today and see Angelo’s degree hanging on our wall and tell your friends where they can get an honest, free, and accurate evaluation of their jewelry.

Do you buy Tanzinite jewelry? I have a ring thats over 3 carat 18k white gold with diamonds

    • Hi Kathy, thanks for reaching out to us. Yes! we buy Tanzanite. If you are in the Sacramento area, feel free to bring your ring by our shop. If not, you can always email us some pictures and any details you have (gram weight, total diamond weight, appraisals, etc.), and we can give you a ballpark estimate of its value.

  2. Myra Baker says:

I have a diamond and sapphire bracelet that has an an appraisal value of $18,000 for insurance purposes. I’m sure it’s not going to sell for that price. Gold dealers only want to pay for the gold and they only offer $500-$600 for the gold. I know there is value to the stones and I don’t want to sell it and get ripped off. What should I do?

    • Hi Myra, thanks for commenting. I completely agree with you in not wanting to sell your bracelet for only its gold value. We would be happy to give you a cash wholesale offer for the entire bracelet, not just its gold value. If you are in the area, please feel free to stop by our shop. Or, you can always email us some pictures of the bracelet and the appraisal and we can go from there.

You are right that the insurance appraisal doesn’t really relate to real world market value. To learn more about this, I would definitely recommend our other blog post on how jewelry is valued.

  3. Gean says:

I have a gold ring with three diamonds set in it. Replacement value is $11,000. What would you give me for it?

    • Hi Gean, thanks for reaching out. If you can email us some pictures and details of the ring (total gram weight, metal karat, diamond weight, clarity, color, etc.), we should be able to give you a ballpark resale value. In the meantime, definitely checkout our article on how jewelry is valued to learn more about insurance replacement value and how it relates to resale value.

  4. Donna Mosera says:

I have an 18K men’s heavy link bracelet with the cut letters TONY in the middle. One appraiser said it was a $5,000 bracelet but that she could only give me gold value at the time which was $1,200 since she did not sell jewelry. Any suggestions?

    • Hi Donna, thanks for thinking of us. Unfortunately, personalized jeweler does usually sell pretty close to its intrinsic value unless you can find someone named Tony who likes the bracelet. 🙂 With that in mind, you might get lucky posting it on eBay given the size of the marketplace. For more general information on appraised value vs intrinsic value checkout our article on how to find out how much your jewelry is worth.

I have a 1/2 CT. T.W. 16 Diamond Shadow Heart Pendant in 10K Gold. What would be a good estimate , if I were to sell the whole pendant.
